Braces... for dogs?

Wesley the Golden Retriever pup took the internet by storm this week by showing off something we certainly hadn't seen before - dog braces! Harborfront Hospital for Animals in Michigan, USA, employs a 'doggie dentist' in the form of Dr Moore - only in America, right? Well don't worry, this wasn't vanity on the part of Wesley's owners! Wesley's crooked smile was actually causing him problems, so Dr Moore stepped in to help.

"Orthodontia in pets is normally not for aesthetic purposes, but because of health concerns. This is Wesley and he needed tooth alignment because he could not close his mouth completely, otherwise," reads the veterinary hospital's Facebook post.

"The good news is, the correction he needed will be brief, perhaps only a few weeks.

"Also, it obviously doesn't bother him one little bit (if you look at the "after" photo). He's a happy little guy."
