Is your dog Britain's most obedient?

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is holding a competition to find the nation’s most obedient dog at their Annual Reunion and Family Fun Day event, which will take place at Battersea Park on Sunday 4 September.

Battersea’s Senior Canine Behaviourist, Nathalie Ingham, says, “Every year people who have rehomed a Battersea dog come from all around the country to the charity’s Annual Reunion event, so we’re hoping we will have dogs from across the UK trying their paw at our obedience challenge and other fun classes. And your four-legged-friend doesn’t even have to be a Battersea dog to take part.

So if you have a hound that high-fives, a dog that can dance, or a pooch that can prance, come down to see if they have what it takes to win. All dog lovers are encouraged to come, meet some of our dogs and join in the fun.”

At the moment, Battersea's obedience champion is Cash, a three-year-old Staffie who was brought into Battersea because his owners were no longer able to take care of him. He didn't know many tricks at first, but he's been learning quickly thanks to his foster carer, Battersea Rehoming and Welfare Assistant Jon Barker.

Jon says, “Cash is a very clever boy and he loves playing and meeting new people. He is quick to learn and has been practicing his doggy commands every day. He’s a firm favourite here at Battersea and we’re all hoping he can find a home soon, where he’ll be sure to show off his tricks to his new family.”

The event will take place from 11am to 4.30pm, and will feature several contests open to all dogs:

11.30 – 11.45: Battersea’s annual rehoming parade
