Cheshire Police's newest recruit named by the public

When the Cheshire Police shared a picture of their newest little recruit, asking for the public to suggest possible names, they likely were not expecting it to blow up the way it did: in a matter of days thousands of people got in touch on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to suggest names.

The three most popular names among those suggested turned out to be Axel, Saxon and Rebel; the public was asked to vote their favourite out of them across all three platforms, with votes closing at midday on Wednesday, 11 January. And the winning name, with a total of 1,695 votes by closing time, was...

Sgt Andy Burrage said, “We asked you to give us a name as big as his presence as a general purpose police dog and you voted for Axel. This is a fitting name for a dog who will be doing everything from catching criminals to searching for missing vulnerable people. Thank you for taking the time to take part in naming our budding crime fighter.”

Little Axel will now go on with his training to become an effective crime fighter like his dad, PD Ingo. Everyone is certain he'll become a great police dog: you can already tell he's a bright spark.
