The charity Canine Partners is organising two 5k fun runs in September, one in the grounds of Petworth Park in West Sussex, the other in Eglinton Country Park, Kilwinning, North Ayrshire. Both ‘Purple Fun Runs’ (or walks, if you prefer!) take place on Saturday 24 September 2011. There are also shorter routes for wheelchair users.
Canine Partners, which provides assistance dogs for people with disabilities, does a brilliant job and makes a massive difference to so many people’s lives. All monies raised from the two events will go towards the purchase, training and partnership of assistance dogs, who can be trained to do anything from opening and closing doors or fetching items in the home, to handing over money in shops and emptying the washing machine. They also increase independence and provide companionship for their human partners.
If you want to take part, the registration fee is £25 for adults and £15 for children. All runners will receive an event pack containing a Canine Partners T-shirt and hairy hair band, plus a certificate and medal. The charity is hoping each adult can also raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship (£25 for children).
Places are limited so to register – on a first come, first served basis – call 01730 716014 (Petworth) or 0845 481 1915 (Eglinton) or visit www.caninepartners.org.uk
