Jojo the Golden Retriever has an unusual job – she’s a ‘comfort dog’ at a dentist surgery, a helping paw and soft cuddle through the fear and pain. Why did no one think of this before?!

Jojo is six years old, and has worked a weekly shift at the Pediatric Dentistry of Northbrook office in Illinois, USA, for the past couple of years. She has a wealth of experience as a therapy pet, even in the most distressing situations; in 2012, Jojo was one of the dogs bought in to help traumatised children and families in the wake of the infamous Sandy Hook shootings.

The surgery said, “We love having JoJo as part of our team! She loves to make new friends and help them feel calm during any dental procedures, from a simple teeth cleaning, to more complicated things, such as wiggling teeth out for the tooth fairy!”

Working with nervous children, Jojo can help make visiting the dentist a more enjoyable experience, and prevent the development of a very common lifetime fear.

Jojo’s handler Lynne told the Daily Herald, “I thought Jo Jo could really do some good here.

“Jo Jo had to be trained to get used to all the different noises in a dental office, like the sound of the drill and the suction,’ she explains. ‘But now, she gets up on the chair and reclines on children’s laps.”
