You may remember our article about the fantastic new Dogs Trust advert, which showed a homeless dog dutifully carrying a knitted owner about, in the hope that one day a real one would walk through the door.

One anonymous dog lover has taken this message of the ‘Special Someone’ to heart, and left a gorgeous knitted pair of people outside Dogs Trust’s Darlington centre under cover of darkness.

Rebecca Mckeown, Supporter Relations Officer at the Darlington Rehoming Centre, says, “Sadly we have had dogs dumped at the gates in the past, but finding these two little characters was a lovely surprise!”

Doris is now the keeper of the dolls; when the seven-year-old Lurcher was introduced to them, she was besotted. Is this a sign that a perfect pair are on their way for Doris?

Rebecca says, “Doris is a lovely, affectionate girl who really needs to find her Special Someone, and perhaps that could be one of the secret knitters? We, and our dogs, would love to have the opportunity to thank them for taking the time to highlight in such a wonderful way how important it is for people to consider giving a homeless dog a second chance.”
