Animal Charity PDSA is searching for the most amazing pet survival tales. If you know a dog who just barely dodged death between 1 August 2015 and 1 August 2016, you have until 25 September to nominate them here for the the Pet Survivor Awards 2016.

Last year’s winner is Ziggy, who was found late in 2014 wandering through the woodland with a crossbow bolt lodged through his head. Amazingly, the bolt had missed missed all vital nerves and blood vessels in his head – a one-in-a-million chance. Ziggy underwent a delicate operation to remove the crossbow bolt and went on to find his forever home soon afterwards.

One of this year’s very first entries is that of Bobby, a 10-year-old Spaniel who survived a horrifying wasp attack that triggered a deadly immune reaction. Thanks to prompt care, Bobby has made an amazing recovery – the kind of happy ending PDSA wants to hear more of!

The awards are open to any pet treated by a vet in the UK for a life-threatening illness or injury. From the entries received, a panel of judges will shortlist a small group of miracle pets to take part in a public vote. The pet that receives the most votes will be declared PDSA Pet Survivor 2016 and will win a year’s PDSA pet insurance.
