Over the weekend of 22-23 October, hundreds of dogs will descend on the ExCel Exhibition Centre in London for Eukanuba Discover Dogs. The annual Kennel Club event is a fun day out for the whole family and a great way to meet and greet over 200 different breeds.
There are now 217 pedigree dog breeds recognised in the UK. The choice can be overwhelming for those looking for a puppy, but by doing your homework about the varous breeds, their needs, temperament, and the different functions they were originally developed for, you’ll have the best possible chance of finding the right dog for you, your family, and your lifestyle.
As well as the ever-popular collies, Labradors, Staffies and scores more, Discover Dogs is an excellent way to meet breeds you might have heard of, but never seen up close, including vulnerable breeds, such as the Sealyham Terrier and the Otterhound. There’ll also be new breeds to say hello to, like the Braque d’Auvergne, an ancient French gundog.
Exciting displays and competitions, from fast and furious agility to the semi-final of the Scruffts Family Crossbreed of the Year, take place on both days, while a bevy of dogs who’ve made a name for themselves on Instagram will be the event’s official ‘doggie roving reporters’. Discover Dog is heaven for shoppers too, with dog-related products and gifts galore.
The event is open from 10am to 5pm and under-12s go free. For more information, visit www.discoverdogs.org.uk.
