The RSPCA is appealing for information after an emaciated female Staffie, now named Ruby, was found on a field in Cannock, Staffordshire, on 6 October. She weighed only 8 kilos instead of 20 as a healthy dog should, and sadly that was far from her only problem.
RSPCA inspector Laura Bryant said, “Ruby was in the most appalling condition when she was found, and clearly had been for some time. She is just skin and bone and sadly is going to lose an eye due to an ulcer which has not been treated. The open sores on her behind look extremely painful and should have been treated a very long time ago. Ruby has clearly been very uncomfortable for a while but she is now on pain relief and is slowly recovering.”
Despite the neglect, Ruby has proved herself to be a very friendly. Described as “adorable”, she’ll be up for rehoming as soon as her health will allow it. Meanwhile, other than caring for her, the RSPCA is trying to find out where she came from.
“We are very keen to find out who dumped Ruby,” Laura said. “We urge anyone who has any information to contact us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018.”
