Established in 1992, The Veterinary Poisons Information Service (VPIS) has since been providing around the clock advice to vets dealing with poisoning in animals. Starting 5 September, their service has been expanded to pet owners as well.
A phone line, open to the public Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, will be available to anyone who fears their pet may have been exposed to poisonous substances and need immediate advice. The service, at the cost of £30, will put owners in contact with a VPIS specialist who’ll be able to advise whether or not their pet requires a visit to the vet. If the pet does require treatment, any additional call for advice from you and your vet will be free of charge.
The number to call to use the service is 02073 055 055. For more information, visit the VPIS website.
