Just under a thousand Chihuahuas from all over the UK descended on Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, for a unique record-breaking event. The second annual Fest of Chihuahuas is the biggest ever gathering of Chihuahuas in the UK.
Whilst there, owners and dogs took part in the official Guinness World Record attempt to smash the record for the world’s largest ever Dog Yoga session. The current record is held in China by 275 human-dog pairings.
The 30 minute DOGA session was led by Britain’s Got Talent’s TV “Doga” trainer Mahny and her dog Robbie, famous for cocking his leg up against David Walliams on the TV programme. Chihuahuas and their flexible owners twisted into a variety of poses including ‘Downward Dog’, the ‘Tree’ and finished with a communal ‘Nama-paw’ rather than ‘Namaste’.
The evidence has now been submitted to Guinness World Records but Haus of Chihuahuas is confident that their 300+ Doga participants smashed the record.
The event also included thrilling agility displays and the UK’s first ‘Chi idol’. Isa and Lucky, who stole the nations hearts at Crufts this year, also put on a show stopping clown performance.
Founder Rachel Louise Monk said, “As a nation we are known for being dog crazy. Chihuahuas are rapidly becoming one of the country’s most popular breeds because of the huge character they carry in their tiny frames. Giving them their own festival just seemed a natural thing to do and we can’t wait until our Christmas event. After the success of our second annual show, we are now in talks to take it on the road for a full nationwide tour.”
Crowds watched as Fidget Spinning Chihuahuas showed off their tricks, rescue dogs paraded around the ring and pooches challenged one another in the ‘Dapper Dog’ and ‘Prettiest Pooch’ categories. The grand finale saw eight Chihuahuas battle to win the title of ‘King of the Ring’ and ‘Queen on the Scene’.
Owners also had plenty of chances to treat their pooch with plenty of doggie shopping stalls.
