We recently acquired a new addition to our family, a Springer Spaniel called Coco. We were advised when we collected her that she has a birth defect on her foot. When we took her to the vet for vaccinations and to be microchipped, we were advised that she may need an operation on her foot in the future. We currently do not have insurance in place for Coco and have begun to look into it, but would the birth defect be covered?

Neil Flint advises…

Unfortunately, you will struggle to find an insurance company that will cover this. Any illness or injury that has been noted on the vet history before a policy is taken out, or within the inception period, is classed as a pre-existing condition. It would be helpful to get insurance in place as soon as possible to ensure any future conditions that are not connected to this condition will be covered.

If you would like to discuss this matter further, or would like any help with insurance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
