Dog lovers are being urged to get baking for the ‘Great Birmingham Bark Off’ – a new fundraising initiative from Birmingham Dogs Home to help raise money for stray dogs.
To mark the launch of GBBO, everyone is invited to join Birmingham Dogs Home staff and volunteers at their two centres for a ‘Bark Off’ this Saturday (15 September) for tea, coffee and cakes. Staff at the two centres will be going head-to-head with one another, baking and selling cakes to see who can create the best cakes and raise lots of funds for stray dogs in their care.
Fundraising packs will also be available for people to sign-up to, containing everything you need to host your own ‘Bark Off’ event, including posters, decorations and balloons, recipe ideas and bunting.
Community Fundraiser and organiser of the Great Birmingham Bark Off, Rachel Frost, said, “If you love dogs and cakes then we want to hear from you! We want as many people as possible to get baking to help us look after and find forever homes for the thousands of stray and abandoned dogs we see every year. Come along to one of our centres this weekend to meet our staff, enjoy some tea and cake, and get some ideas for your own ‘Bark Off.’”
Chief Executive, Giles Webber added, “We are very excited to launch our ‘Great Birmingham Bark Off’ which we hope will encourage dog lovers everywhere to get together and enjoy a catch up and a cake. Whether it’s you and a few friends, your neighbours or work colleagues; you can hold a ‘Bark Off’ anytime and anywhere. All donations you make from your ‘Bark Off’ will be very much appreciated and will help our staff and volunteers keep up the great work of caring for stray and abandoned dogs.”
Already several organisations have pledged to hold their own Bark Off event, including Warwickshire Country Cricket Club, Walsall FC, Heart FM, Capital FM, Pets at Home, Jolleys and even defence secretary Gavin Williamson MP! Look out for photos of their events on Birmingham Dogs Home’s Facebook page @birminghamdogshome , where you can also find out more about GBBO and post your own ‘Bark Off’ photos.
