I like to give my dog as healthy a diet as possible, and would love to make my own cookies, to give as an occasional treat. What recipes would you recommend?
My favourite treats are the Mutter Butter Cookies for Dogs, made by The Dog Bakery. The founder and head chef, Rocky Kanaka, has produced a quick, simple recipe for the tastiest treat ever – while ensuring they are healthy and wholesome.
You will need:
• 1¼ cup of wheat
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 1 tablespoon baking soda
•½ cup natural peanut butter (with no added sugar or sweeteners)
• ½ cup honey
• ½ cup unsweetened apple sauce
Preheat the oven to 165 degrees.
Put all the wet ingredients in a bowl and mix. Then mix the dry ingredients together and fold into the wet mixture.
Put scoops of cookie mixture on a tray lined with baking parchment. Leave a little space around each scoop, so there’s room when you push them down with a fork to flatten them into a cookie shape.
Pop them in the oven for around 12 minutes until they are golden brown, and let them cool before giving to your dog. Seal the rest in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
I’m sure your dog will agree with me that Mutter Butter cookies are pure doggie deliciousness; I’m drooling just thinking about them! For more recipes, buy A Dog’s Way Home now on DVD.
