An animal sanctuary in south Sri Lanka is urgently appealing for donations after heavy flooding has left many vulnerable dogs without necessary shelter.

Animal SOS Sri Lanka was founded by Kim Cooling in 2009, and is based in Midigama, Ahangama, south Sri Lanka. Thanks to Kim’s dedication and the hard work from volunteers, around 200 disabled dogs are currently residing in a permanent sanctuary and thousands of strays have been rescued, neutered, and treated for diseases by an on-site veterinary clinic.

Recently, Kim’s sanctuary has been a victim to flooding due to the heavy rainfall in the area. For the last few months, the dogs have suffered as there is not enough adequate shelter to accommodate all the canine residents – meaning many are getting wet throughout the day and night.

The charity has managed to raise enough funds for a large shelter which has gone a long way in helping, however more funds are desperately needed to ensure all the dogs are kept safe and dry while the conditions continue to worsen.
