May the fourth is the day of Star Wars stories – and the dog world is no exception. Today’s gem is about Star Wars pet names… Whether it’s ‘Chewbarker’, or ‘Dog Vader’, pet insurance provider Animal Friends has analysed internal data to see just how many British pets have a Star Wars-inspired name, and which prove to be the most popular.
Patricia Gardiner from Animal Friends explains, “Naming a new puppy or kitten is no easy task, and there are always some firm favourites, such as Bella and Charlie, but we know that many pet owners take inspiration from their favourite shows, artists and movies.”
Animal Friends’ data showed that of all the Star Wars inspired names, Yoda came out on top, with nearly a third (29%) of pets named after the legendary Jedi master.
Yoda was followed by Finn (22%), Obi (14%) and Chewie (short for Chewbacca) (9%), with Chewbacca’s formal name placing in seventh position (2%).
Everyone’s favourite princess, Princess Leia, also made the cut (2%), however classic characters such as Jabba, Grogu and Luke Skywalker do not feature on the list names from a galaxy far, far away.
